Royal Inland Hospital

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a UBC teaching hospital and one of two tertiary hospitals in Interior Health. Our facility serves a catchment of approximately 250,000 and has 273 beds. Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care including Cardiology, Critical Care, Dermatology, Neurology, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, Nephrology, Respirology, and Rheumatology. Surgical services include General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology.

The Clinical Services building was completed in 2016, which includes hospital-based outpatient clinics, diagnostic services, and home base for the UBC medical school. The Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower opened at RIH in the summer of 2022, including a new operating room and surgical services suite, respiratory therapy services, mental-health and substance-use inpatient unit, obstetrics services, labor and delivery, and a rooftop helipad. The next new development is a renovation and expansion of the emergency department, expected to complete in 2026.

The Medical Imaging department at Royal Inland Hospital is a collaborative team of 11 radiologists and 1 nuclear medicine physician who provide services in x-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound (GE), CT (Siemens Dual Source Flash x2), recently upgraded MRI (1.5T GE), digital mammography, nuclear medicine, bone densitometry, and vascular interventional. Our department is digital, utilizing McKesson PACS along with Fluency voice recognition dictation software. There is a one-year track to full associate. We are excited to add a passionate and hardworking radiologist to our team at RIH.
