Allowances, and Benefits:

In addition to salary, you are entitled to an isolated posts allowance.

This can range from $26, to $44, per year, depending on the number of dependants, geographic location and whether the accommodation is provided by the Crown. You are also entitled to vacation travel allowance of approximately $1, twice a year for you and each eligible dependant.

As a federal government employee, you will also receive a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan and health, dental and group insurance.

Work environment

The successful candidate would be working with a small team responsible for leading the Departments interventions during reviews of environmental assessment reports for projects pursuant to the Nunavut Agreement (formerly known as the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement) and the Nunavut Planning and Project Assessment Act.

Intent of the process

This inventory will be used to fill current vacancies and to establish a pool of qualified candidates for future opportunities.

It may also be used to staff similar positions with various tenures (Deployment, Assignment, Secondment, Acting, Term or Indeterminate) within Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) with various security requirements (reliability or secret).

Pools created as a result of staffing processes may be shared with other government departments.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

The following criteria will be assessed using your resume and the online screening questions. To be selected, you must demonstrate when, where and how you acquired each of the qualifications by giving concrete examples.

Education:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution, with acceptable specialization in physics, geology, chemistry, or some other science relevant to the position.

Experience:
Experience in contributing scientific or technical reports through writing or preparing or presenting scientific findings.
Experience working within multidisciplinary groups or project teams.

If you possess any of the following, your application must also clearly explain how you meet it (other qualifications)

Experience:
Experience working in an environmental field.
Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment, specifically as it relates to Inuit culture and values.
Experience working on environmental impact assessment processes for development projects in the Arctic.
Experience carrying out projects in collaboration with Indigenous groups or Indigenous organizations, or experience in consulting with Indigenous groups or Indigenous organizations.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of ecosystem components and their interactions with terrestrial or aquatic environments.
Knowledge of steps required to undertake an environmental impact assessment.
Knowledge of impacts of development projects and relevant environmental mitigation measures.

Abilities:
Ability to communicate orally.
Ability to communicate in writing.
Ability to critically analyze environmental reports
Ability to work effectively with others.
Ability to effectively manage extensive documentation records.

Knowledge of the potential impacts of development projects on an Arctic environment.
Knowledge of Article 12 of the Nunavut Agreement.

Abilities:
Ability to communicate in Inuktitut.
