Literacy Intervention and Support Leader

Department of Education Literacy Intervention and Support Leader Start Date: August 2024 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience: • Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in teaching literacy • Possession of a Master’s Degree or post-graduate coursework in early literacy, reading or primary education would be an asset; • Trained and accredited as a Reading Recovery™ Teacher Leader in good standing considered an asset • Certified in Wilson Reading System is considered an asset. • Minimum of 5 year’s primary classroom teaching experience. • Experience working in a collaborative and professional learning environment; • Experience using a variety of literacy intervention strategies to support students; • Fully fluent in English and French an asset DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY: Candidates should have and may be assessed on their: • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with teachers, administration and Departmental staff; • Strong planning and organizational skills; • Ability to critically problem-solve, synthesize and use a variety of data to improve practices at the individual student, classroom, school, Department and Territory level; • Ability to assist with and promote Literacy Intervention in Yukon using various strategies and resources, including planning and delivery of professional development (facilitating in-services, workshops etc.); • Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team; • A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations People and a culturally-diverse student population; JOB REQUIREMENT: • Travel within Whitehorse and throughout the Yukon communities by road and air.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: • French proficiency level desired: C1 • If you are interested in the teaching position, please indicate clearly in your resume that you are bilingual (oral and written skills) and your proficiency in both official languages. French Language Proficiency will be tested as part of the assessment process. • As English is the administrative language in the Government of Yukon, your cover letter and resume must be submitted in English. • To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first; • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check. • Relocation may be available.
