Job Description

<p><p>WestJet is hiring a Senior Accountant – Corporate who will be responsible for various aspects of Executive compensation accounting and payroll reporting. As a senior member of the Corporate Accounting team, the Senior Accountant will also be responsible for mentoring team members and performing review functions.</p>
<p>Employment Type: Full‑time Regular</p>
<p>City: Calgary, AB (YYC)</p>
<h3>Responsibilities</h3>
<ul>
<li>Complete WestJet month‑end processes, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and actuals variance analysis over the following accounting areas:
<ul>
<li>Executive compensation STIP bonus calculation</li>
<li>Stock based compensation – LTIP accounting and financial disclosures</li>
<li>Board of Director compensation – including deferred share unit plan</li>
<li>Other areas of executive compensation including special incentive and severance accounting</li>
<li>Other areas of payroll accounting as needed including vacation accounting</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Review and support over the Corporate Accountant – payroll’s month‑end deliverables including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and analysis</li>
<li>Identify opportunities for processes enhancements to evolve month‑end deliverables alongside technology and system changes including supporting cross‑functional HR projects to automate and optimize our payroll systems</li>
<li>Develop and maintain C‑SOx and process documentation over executive compensation and payroll accounting</li>
<li>Partner closely with Technical Accounting and the Compensation team to adapt accounting for changes to the executive comp program</li>
<li>Be an active member of the Finance team; complete ad‑hoc reporting requests and be flexible in completing any task including supporting FP&A, internal and external audit</li>
</ul>
<h3>Position Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Completion of a professional accounting designation</li>
<li>Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in an accounting role with progressive levels of responsibility involving the application of technical accounting guidance</li>
<li>Attention to detail, organized and thorough, with a desire for continuous improvement</li>
<li>Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight timelines in a fast paced and evolving environment</li>
<li>Excellent inter‑team and business partner communication skills</li>
<li>Strong analytical and critical thinking skills</li>
<li>Positive attitude and collaborative approach to problem solving and work tasks in general</li>
<li>Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality</li>
<li><b>Advanced Excel proficiency</b></li>
