<p><p><strong><span>QAI Job Number</span></strong><span>: QAI-TECHOVS-09242025<br /> <strong>JOB TITLE</strong>: Technical Oversight Specialist (Building Products)<br /> <strong>LOCATION</strong>: Burnaby, Canada<br /> <strong>NUMBER OF POSITIONS</strong>: 1<br /> <strong>CATEGORY</strong>: Construction Materials<strong> </strong></span></p><p><span><strong><span>SALARY RANGE</span></strong></span><span>: $100,000 to $140,000 annually </span></p><p><span><strong><span>BACKGROUND</span></strong></span><span>:</span></p><p><span>Founded in 1995 by a group of experienced certification and testing experts, QAI is an independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization that serves the building, technology, and construction industries (among others) with cost-effective solutions through our in-house capabilities/services, and an established world-wide network of qualified affiliates. The QAI name and logo have become well-recognized throughout the Certification world resulting in steady growth of our Certification, Testing, and Inspection business streams. </span></p><p><span>Currently, we are looking for a Technical Oversight Specialist to join our growing Building Products team and support future expansion.</span></p><p><span><strong>DUTIES</strong></span><span>: You will perform, but not be limited to the following duties:</span></p><ul><li>Evaluate test reports, code evaluation reports, certification reports, calculations, and other technical data to building products to nationally recognized building safety standards (CSA, UL, ASTM, etc.) </li><li>Apply knowledge of Canadian and/or US Building Codes as part of product evaluations and reporting.</li><li>Develop and apply evaluation criteria to assess compliance of construction products, including modified or non-standard systems, with applicable building codes and recognized standards.</li><li>Assist clients with determining the applicable requirements for their products and/or the evaluation needed to validate compliance when a product is modified.</li><li>Assist with the design and construction of testing jigs and test sample assemblies. Document construction methods and results of tests/inspections.</li><li>Perform product inspections and product sampling at client sites which may involve travel throughout Canada and the USA</li><li>Mentor and coach junior staff in technical evaluation practices and standards interpretation.</li><li>Become familiar with and comply with the QAI quality system and administrative procedures.</li><li>Be able to write and review concise, objective, and informative reports and documents.</li><li>Be able to interact effectively and professionally with customers and colleagues, as required.</li><li>Must be willing to be part of an energetic team with a can-do attitude.</li><li>Other duties as assigned by the manager, or its designee.</li></ul><p><span> </span></p><p><span><strong>QUALIFICATIONS:</strong></span></p><p><span><strong>Minimum: </strong></span></p><ul><li>Possess Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline (Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, Structural, etc.) or equivalent experience.</li><li>Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards towards product certification, testing, and inspection projects.</li><li>Proficiency in MS Word and Excel skills, be proficient with Email and Adobe Acrobat.</li><li>Possess “Good Laboratory Practice” skills essential for testing products.</li><li>Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.</li></ul><p><span><strong>Requirements: </strong></span></p><ul><li>Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Senior Project Engineer or equivalent experience</li><li>Hold a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation.</li><li>Knowledge of the Canadian and/or US building codes and referenced nationally recognized standards.</li><li>Previous experience with construction materials and construction practices.</li></ul><p><span> </span></p><p><span> </span><span><strong>Key Technical Competence:</strong></span></p><ul><li>Accepts instruction and follows it for testing outside of their general scope of knowledge and experience.</li><li>Able to grasp general concepts in the field of testing and apply it to specific test methods.</li><li>Able to perform testing and as knowledge grows in a specific field of testing graduates to more complex testing methods.</li><li>Seeks assistance and knowledge from more senior personnel when a specific requirement is outside of their general scope of knowledge. </li><li>Good working knowledge of the test methods in their specific discipline.</li><li>Able to multi-task with some degree of efficiency and accuracy.</li><li>Maintains a sense of ownership and responsibility for projects assigned to them.</li></ul><p><span><strong>ADDITIONAL INFORMATION</strong></span><span>:</span></p><ul><li>Must hold a valid driver’s license.</li><li>Must hold a valid passport, or be able to obtain a valid passport, and must be able to travel to the US and international destinations.</li></ul><p><span><strong> </strong></span></p><p><span><strong>Additional Assets include:</strong></span></p><ul><li>Forklift experience</li><li>Level I first aid or higher</li></ul><p><span><strong>APPLYING:</strong></span></p><p><span>QAI Laboratories offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package including base salary and bonus/commissions, medical, dental, and other perks.
