Overview

WSP Canada is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to join our team as the Vice President of Finance for one of our key market sectors. This role will shape the financial strategy, drive business success, and promote inclusivity within the sector. The Vice President of Finance provides financial leadership, guides financial decision-making, ensures financial stability and growth, and develops strong working relationships with the Sector as a member of their leadership team, working collaboratively with Sector leaders to achieve organizational goals. The role also supports company-wide transformation efforts, championing organizational adaptability, implementing innovative solutions, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement across financial operations.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Leadership: Partner with the Sector and WSP Canada Leadership to provide strategic financial leadership, develop and improve reporting (including KPIs) for management decision making, streamline processes, and support growth and future needs.
  • Financial Strategy: Develop and implement financial strategies and initiatives that support sector growth and profitability targets.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Financial Reporting: Oversee preparation and presentation of financial reports to senior management, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Project Profitability: Monitor and enhance project profitability, partnering with project teams to optimize financial performance, assess risk and profitability, and participate in major pursuit pricing and monitoring of ongoing projects’ profitability, risk, and working capital.
  • Financial Success: Drive value creation through revenue growth, cost efficiencies, and free cash flow optimization.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks while optimizing opportunities for growth.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement and developing succession plans.
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and financial standards (IFRS), maintain internal controls, and implement sector-specific controls.
  • Mergers, Acquisitions and Integration: Provide financial analysis and due diligence for potential mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships; lead integration for completed acquisitions in partnership with Sector Leadership.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with senior executives, business leaders, and external partners to drive financial success.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and optimize cost structures and resource allocation to enhance profitability.
  • Process Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous process improvement across the organization.

What you’ll bring to WSP

  • CPA or CPA equivalent; MBA is an asset.
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a professional services or engineering sector.
  • Proven track record of inclusive financial leadership, strategic planning, and driving financial results.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Oracle and other financial software and tools.
  • Strategic thinker with a focus on innovation, diversity, and continuous improvement.
  • Bilingualism is highly desirable given the national scope of the position.
